'I have the audacity to believe that people everywhere can have three meals a day for their bodies, education and culture for their minds, and dignity, equality, and freedom for their spirits.' - Martin Luther King

Hands of Help is a grassroots, charitable assocaition committed to making a difference to the lives of people living in poverty around the world.

Hands of Help was established in 2005 by a Universtiy of Sydney medical student, Phoebe Williams, who will graduate in 2008 to become a doctor. With a background in development economics and having visited East-Africa first hand, Phoebe returned to Australia determined to go back to Africa with more time, money, and people to make a difference.

What began as a dream has become a reality. Over the past three years, due to the tireless work of hundreds of volunteers and the generosity of so many Australians, Hands of Help as:

  1. rebuilt 4 primary schools in Uganda
  2. established a Community Health Project providing health care to over 50,000 Ugandans
  3. created a Child Sponsorship Program for children in Kenya
  4. establised an Indigenous Australia Project to give medical students experience in our own nations' health care problems, and
  5. founded The Sydney African Film Festival.
All of this has been done achieved while simultaneously maintaining overhead and administration costs of less that 1% - therefore for every dollar you donate, over 99c is spent on the ground in Africa.

This is a figure not achieved by any other known charity in Australia and is thanks to the tireless hardwork and dedication of the Hands of Help volunteers and charity's execuitve committee.
